Reiki is hands-on natural healing using the universal life force energy.
The term comes from the Japanese words “rei,” (pronounced "ray") meaning universal, and “ki,” (pronounced "key") which means vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Reiki is an abundant, gentle spiritual energy, and is not tied to any specific religion or nationality. This practice is used all over the world in places including hospitals and hospices, and was developed by a Japanese man named Mikao Usui in the late 1800s. It aids in healing by helping people become energetically balanced physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
How is Reiki learned?
Reiki is not taught in the way other healing techniques are taught. It is transferred to the student by a Reiki Master during an attunement process. This process opens the crown, heart, and palm chakras and creates a special link between the student and the Reiki source.
The Reiki attunement is a powerful spiritual experience. The attunement energies are channeled into the student through the Reiki Master.
The attunement can also increase psychic sensitivity. Students often report experiences involving: opening of the third eye, increased intuitive awareness, and other psychic abilities after receiving a Reiki attunement.
Once you have received a Reiki attunement, you will have Reiki for the remainder of your life. It does not wear off and you can never lose it.
What happens during a Reiki session?
The Reiki practitioner is the conduit between the patient and the source of the universal life force energy; the energy flows through the practitioner’s energy field and through their hands to the receiver. The energy does not come from the practitioner; rather it comes through the practitioner from the universal source. Because of this, there is no energy drain on the practitioner, as the practitioner also receives Reiki during the session. I am always very energised and invigorated after giving Reiki! Reiki treatments typically last about 45 minutes. During the treatment the patient lies on a massage table, fully clothed. The Reiki practitioner gently places their hands palms down on or just above the receiver’s body in specific energy locations, or as intuitively guided, to channel the energy where it is needed.
